This is the view from my hotel room. So how did I spend my birthday besides
the spa? Well, instead of the usual bar or something that most people would do, I found myself in the Santorium
part of the hotel. When I made the reservation, I added breakfast and dinner because it was cheap, thinking there was
an actual restaurant in the hotel. My first hint that things wouldn't exactly be normal was when I asked the receptionist
where the restaurant was and she said there was none. So I found the dining hall, gave my slip to the waitress and waited.
She then pointed me to the one table where the only other person was sitting (never mind there were 20 empty tables).
He was some guy in his 60s from Prague whose first words were "I'm gravely
ill." I found out later he was there because he couldn't digest vegetable oil and had to drink the water from a specific
spring 3 times a day on 'doctor's' orders. Only too happy to have someone to talk to, since everyone else was apparently
Russian, he asked if I wanted to go get some dessert. I said sure...why not, it's cake on my birthday anyway.
